About Shania "Just Shania" Banton

Shania Banton is a Queens-born, Caribbean-American Director, Writer, and Producer with over eleven years of experience crafting bold, emotionally charged stories across film, television, digital, and commercial media. A proud first-generation Jamaican-American raised in New York City, Shania’s artistic voice is shaped by the cultural vibrancy and resilience of her community, resulting in stories that celebrate authenticity, identity, and transformation.

She began her career while studying Film and Media at the Fashion Institute of Technology, quickly emerging as a trailblazer during the rise of web and digital series. Her breakout project, WAVES—a layered drama about sisterhood and identity—earned critical recognition, appearing in Spike Lee’s Da Republic of Brooklyn and becoming the #1 series on KweliTV for over two years before premiering on Amazon Prime.

Through her production company, Just Shania Productions, she has built a dynamic portfolio that spans scripted, unscripted, and commercial work while consistently pushing creative boundaries. She has been commissioned to direct multiple short films and branded campaigns, demonstrating her trusted reputation among producers and partners.

Her collaborations extend to powerhouse brands and networks such as HBO, NBCLX, MTV, 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks, Barclays Center, Blacktag, Squarespace, and Fiverr

As a genre director, Shania has a deep love for thriller and horror, using the genre’s intensity to explore emotional truth and societal tension. She is currently developing her debut feature film, Adult Children—a psychological thriller that placed #10 out of 87 films in the DCP Horror Film Competition.

Beyond her film work, Shania is the founder of OnSet Talk, a growing creative community that not only educates filmmakers on the business and art of independent filmmaking but also provides tangible resources, tools, and services to help expand their creative careers.

She is also the visionary behind The Creative Bridge, a company that merges her years of experience in the corporate and entertainment industries to help organizations develop systems, structures, and strategies that nurture creativity while maintaining efficiency.

With over a decade of proven experience and a voice uniquely her own, Shania continues to shape the next generation of storytelling—crafting cinematic experiences that move, challenge, and heal.
